Jim Wright lives and works in Kirkbymoorside,
on the edge of
The North York Moors National Park. He was born in Scotland,
his early childhood was spent in Bannockburn near Stirling, his
family then moved to Perth, Western Australia where he completed
his studies and gained a diploma in art. Initially he worked
in the commercial art field, and then moved into fine art, nine
years ago. Since then he has successfully established a reputation
for his landscapes and seascapes of Northern Britain, and has
a large number in private collections here and abroad. His work
has won a 'Highly Commended' in the Laing Exhibition, a national
exhibition for landscapes and seascapes and has been exhibited
at the Mall Galleries, London. Last year his work was voted
'The people's choice' at Haworth Art Gallery's Open Exhibition.
His work is an emotional response
to his experiences in the more remote areas of the moors, mountains
and coastline of Northern Britain. The use of various media bring
exciting contrasts to his work; the oils, acrylics, wax and
natural materials are often used in pieces, inspired by the raw
energy of the sea and the land, whereas the pastels are his preferred
choice to capture a soft diffusing light, creating a more moody
atmosphere.
